Overview
When the German Reich sent its declaration of war to Paris via telegram, it arrived completely garbled. It sounds like a Dada text. No one managed to decipher the secret text. The fact that it was nonetheless understood as the commencement of hostilities remains one of the mysteries of the catastrophe of 1914.
