A look at Milarepa's entire life, in the highest possible detail, finding out how it became possible for this young, grave sinner to become a leading spiritual figure for the Tibetan people (as well as the practitioners of Vajrayana Buddhism all over the world). Our tale inevitably includes much on the history of Buddhism in Tibet, the basic Buddhist tenets that Milarepa came to learn for himself, and the importance of the relationship between the lama (mentor) and the student. We also circle, again and again, the central themes of this fascinating life: remorse and suffering -- how the weight of the former can be crushing, and how the latter leads one to go through the harshest trials in searches of emotional, spiritual liberation.
