He is recognized for his socially conscious independent Punjabi cinema, with films that explore themes such as toxic masculinity, sexual repression, identity, patriarchy, and the complexities of rural life. Raised in a remote farming village, Sidhu developed an early passion for storytelling, theatre, and the arts while studying at a local government school.
